Division of a Line Segment

Introduction for division of a  line Segment:
A line segment is defined as the part of a line that is enclosed by two end points. The line segment is applicable for the polygonal sides and most probably used in geometric.  Line segment is simply says, the straight path that be joining two points.

Here AB is the line segment, which the line is joining A and B points. Let we see about the division of a line segment.

Example -division of a Line Segment

Let we see about the example problem of division of a line segment as follow.

Ex: 1

Draw a line segment of length 7 cm and divide it into the ration of 3:2.

Steps for Construction:

Step 1: Draw a line segment of line 7 cm.

Step 2: Draw a ray AX make an acute angle with AB.

Step 3: Draw a ray BY parallel to the AX such that the angle of XAB is equal to the angle of ABY.

Step 4: Locate the points A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 on AX line

Step 5: Similarly locate the B1, B2 such that AA1=A1A2=A2A3=BB1= B1B2.

Step 6: Join A3B2 that intersect AB at X. Then AO: BO = 3:2.

Example 2 Division of a Line Segment

Draw the line segment of length 8 cm and bisect it

Procedure for Construction

Step 1: Draw a line segment of line 8 cm.

Step 2: Take a certain length on AB and make an arc above and below of the line.

Step 3: With that same length, make an arc above and below of the line such both arc will be intersect which are at the point A and B.

Step 4: Join the two intersected point at arc and make the line be bisect.
