Introduction to Negative and Positive Number Line  

Let us discuss about the negative and positive number line. The line number is used placed in exact position. The line number is performing by the addition and subtraction operation. This operation is called as the basic math operation. The general format of the line number is {…-6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4…}. The line number mostly used the positive number, negative number and zero.

The negative and positive number line model point is coordinates. The real number is declaring the number line. The negative number is represent the number line is left side. The positive number is represent the number line is right side. The number line is three parts. Those parts are

The origin of the number line is generally called as the zero point. The position of the zero is central part of the number line.

Right side origin

The right side origin of the number line is generally called as the positive number line. The right side origin is represent the all number is greatest number. The positive number line sign is +. The structure of the right side origin is {+1, +2, +3….}. The example of the positive number line is +45, +89, +12 and etc.

Left side origin

The left side origin of the number line is commonly called as the negative number line. The left side origin is represent the all numbers are smallest number. The negative number line sing is -. The structure of the left side origin is {-1, -2, -3…}. The example of the negative number line is -36, -61, -14 and etc.

Example Problem of Negative and Positive Number Line

Problem 1:

Add the following positive number

3 + 4 =?

Solution

The positive numbers are move from right side origin. The number 3 and 4 is move right side origin.

Step 1: move 3 units from right side origin.

Step 2: move 4 units from right side origin.

Problem 2:

Subtract the following negative numbers

-7 - 3 =?

Solution

The negative numbers are move from left side of the origin. The number -7 and -3 is move left side origin.

Step 1: move 7 units from left side origin.

Step 2: move 3 units from left side origin.
