Corresponding Numbers

Number:

A number is defined as a numerical thing, which is used for measuring and counting. It is also referred to as numeral and involves zero, negative numbers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, etc,.

The method of numerical operation includes one or more numerical as input and generate its relevant numerical output. This process contains arithmetic operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponentiation.


Types:


Cardinal numbers:

Cardinal number is counting the numbers in word formats, which is representing the total strength such as five eggs, three boys. Otherwise, it is referred to as overview of natural numbers, which is calculating the cardinal (size) of the given sets.

Generally, cardinal numbers are defined as a collection of ordinal numbers, which used to count the numbers in sets. It is also called as cardinals.

Ordinal number:

Ordinal numbers are numbers, which denote the order or location of objects with number words in a series such as ‘first’, ‘second’, ‘third’... It is also called as ordinals.

For example, If five books are in a rack, then that books are mentioned by its position as first book, second book, similarly third, fourth, fifth.

Composite Number:

A Composite Number is a number, which can be divided with evenly. The composite number has more than two factors with one and itself.

Or else, it can be referred as numeral (integer) that is accurately divided with atleast one factor except one and itself. Composite number has infinite numbers also. However, composite numbers are not prime numbers.

Prime Number:

A prime number is a number, which can be divided only with one and itself. The prime number has only two factors such that one and itself.


Corresponding numbers:


Examples:

1)      Write the corresponding decimal numbers for following fractions:

a)      ½

b)      ¼

c)      ¾

Solution:

a)      The corresponding decimal for ½ is 0.5

b)      The corresponding decimal for ¼ is 0.25

c)      The corresponding decimal for ¾ is 0.75

2)      Write the corresponding number for each one (twenty, ten, nine)

Solution:

Twenty - 20
Ten – 10
Nine – 9
3)      Write the corresponding numbers for following Romans: (IV, V, XII)

Solution:

IV – 4
V – 5
XII - 12
