Introduction to math fraction concepts:
Fraction means a number with both numerator and denominator. The upper part of the fraction is numerator and the lower part is denominator. Math fraction concepts is done with arithmetic operations. Math fraction concepts is nothing but the operations that can be done with fractions are explained. The classification of fraction and problems related to math fraction concepts is shown below.
Math fraction concepts:
Fraction are classified as
Proper fraction
Improper fraction
Mixed fraction
Proper Fraction:
The numerator is lesser than the denominator
Example: `2/3`
Improper fraction:
The numerator is greater than the denominator
Example: `20/5`
Mixed fraction:
A whole number with a fractional part
Example 2 `4/5`
Math fraction concepts example problems:
1. Add `3/17 + 5/17`
Solution
Here the denominators of fraction are equal. So just add the numerator only
`(3+5)/17`
`8/17 ` is the answer.
2. Add `1/5+1/3`
Solution
Here the denominators are different so find LCM
The LCM of 5, 3 = 15
`(3xx1)/ (3xx5)` = `3/15`
`(1xx5)/(3xx5)` =` 5 /15`
Now we add
`3/15 + 5/15`
`(3+5)/15`
`8 / 15` is the solution
Similar to addition we do the subtraction of fraction
3. Multiply `4/5 xx 1/ 4`
Solution
`4 / 5 xx 1 / 4`
`(4 xx 1) /( 5xx4)` = `4 / 20` = `1/5 `
4. Divide `7/ 6 ` `-:` ` 4/3`
Solution
Keep the first fraction without any change.
Inverse the second fraction and find the product
`7 / 6 xx 3 /4`
`21/24`
`7/8 ` is the answer.
Math fraction concepts:
Add `7/17 + 4/17`
Subtract `3/7`-`2/5`
Multiply `4/7 xx 2/3`
Divide `3/5` `-:` `2/5`
Answers
`11/17`
`1/35`
`8/21`
`3/2 `
