The Median of a Math Problem

Introduction to Median of a math problem:

A median is defined as separation of numeric value to higher half of a sample, probability distribution or population apart from the other half(lower).  The finite listing of numbers of a median can be evaluated by ordering all comments form lower to higher values and selecting the middle value.  In median of a maths Whenever there is a presence of even numbers, then there will not be a single value of centered (i.e) the median is defined as the mean of two middle values. In this article we shall discuss about the median of a math problems.

The Median of a Math Problem

Example 1: Find the median of 6, 4, 3, 9, 2, 8, and 5.

Solution:

Evaluate the total numbers from the given set of values.

From the given set of values, there are totally 7 numbers, Which is odd,

Now arrange the total numbers in ascending order.

=>2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9

The middle position for odd number can be calculated using the formula, `(n+1)/(2)`

Here n-> total count of numbers in the list

So for the given set of number, the middle position=> `(7+1)/ (2)` =` 8/2` = 4

Therefore the 4th term is the median, which is 5.

Therefore Median is 5.

Example 2: Find the median of 8, 6, 9, 3, 2, 7, 1, and 4

Solution:

Evaluate the total numbers from the given set of values.

From the given set of values, there are totally 8 numbers, Which is even,

Now arrange the total numbers in ascending order,

=>1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9

As the given set of numbers is even , Sort out two middle numbers from the above given list of numbers,

Which is  4 & 6 are the two middle numbers,

In order to find the median, Add both middle terms and divide by 2,

Adding both numbers `(4+6)/(2)` = 5

Therefore Median is 5.

Example 3: Find the median of 8, 6, 9, 3, 2, 7

Solution:

Evaluate the total numbers from the given set of values.

From the given set of values, there are totally 6 numbers, Which is even,

Now arrange the total numbers in ascending order,

2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9

As the given set of numbers is even , Sort out two middle numbers from the above given list of numbers,

Which is  6 & 7 are the two middle numbers,

In order to find the median, Add both middle terms and divide by 2,

Adding both numbers `(6+7)/(2)` = 6.5

Therefore Median is 6.5

The Median of a Math Practice Problem:

Problem 1: Find the median of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Solution: The median is 4

Problem 2:Find the median of 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 7.

Solution: The median is 4.5
